ABOUT

Fiona Wiedmann is a Scottish-German director and theatre maker based in Berlin. Her love for theatre began early and evolved into a career rooted in curiosity, collaboration, and cross-cultural storytelling. After earning a Master’s degree in Theatre Practice & Production from the University of Galway (Distinction), Fiona’s career began to gain momentum across Ireland, the UK, and Germany.
She continually seeks new artistic impulses and has trained with renowned companies including Company of Wolves (Glasgow), Junk Ensemble (Ireland), and the Berliner Ensemble. Fiona was selected for intensive directing workshops with Garry Hynes in Galway and participated in the European Theatre Convention’s Theatre Academy for emerging artists in Avignon (2022). She has worked with Moonfish Theatre during their acclaimed run of Redemption Falls at the Galway International Arts Festival, and presented work at festivals such as the Expat Expo at English Theatre Berlin.

Fiona has also worked extensively as an assistant director, notably during the R&D phase of The Bow Maker at the National Theatre of Scotland. From 2021 to 2023, she served as Resident Assistant Director at Staatsschauspiel Dresden—one of Germany’s leading state theatres—where she collaborated on numerous productions including Lulu (dir. Daniela Löffner), Das Leben ist Traum (dir. Tilmann Köhler), and Jason & Medea Medley (dir. Jaz Woodcock-Stewart). Her time there also included independent work: she led a community theatre group, culminating in Between the Lines, and developed her own experimental piece Please Don’t Kill the Weib.
In addition to directing, Fiona writes for stage and page. Her short play Dearly Distracted was selected for Page 2 Stage Edinburgh, and her poetry has appeared in Visual Verse.
Currently, Fiona is expanding her practice into film production and is working with New Matter Films in Berlin. This new direction allows her to explore narrative through a cinematic lens, building on her theatrical foundation while engaging with new forms and audiences.
Fluent in both English and German, Fiona works internationally and values the creative freedom that travel brings. Outside of theatre, she enjoys being in nature and making music.
